You are invited to a Community Question Time on Prevent on Tuesday 26th March at the Community Hall adjacent to the Eritrean Muslim Community Association, 283-291 Wandsworth Road, London SW8 2ND. The evening will start at 6.30pm with a hot vegetarian buffet and continue until around 9pm.

Since 2015, schools and local authorities have had a legal duty to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism. This is known as the ‘Prevent Duty’. There has been some uncertainty among parents and communities about what is involved, and recently some further strong criticisms of Prevent have been voiced (eg https://talkradio.co.uk/news/governments-prevent-strategy-has-had-chilling-effect-communities-says-director-rights-watch-uk ). Now, the government has agreed that there should be an independent review of the working of Prevent ( see https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/jan/22/prevent-strategy-on-radicalisation-faces-independent-review . So this is an important time for these Community Question Time to take place.

Faiths Together in Lambeth is running these events at various venues to provide opportunities to engage about Prevent with the staff delivering it in Lambeth. You will be able to ask questions about Prevent, discuss concerns you might have, and make any suggestions for future events in the series.

By way of introduction, the Lambeth Prevent staff are Rupert Sutton (Prevent Programme Manager) and Lydia Nixon (Schools Prevent Officer).
